EndometriosisEndometriosis - Dr Hit

One cause of female infertility is endometriosis. In this case, the endometrium which is meant to line the inside of your uterus, grows outside of the uterus. This tissue can be found on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, pelvic lining, and in rare cases, beyond the pelvic organs. Unlike the endometrial lining, which sheds during menstruation, this misplaced tissue has no way to exit the body. It continues to act as it normally would: thickening, breaking down, and bleeding each month, causing inflammation, scar tissue, and chronic pain.

Surgical TreatmentEndometriosis Surgical Treatment - Dr Hit

There is a surgical treatment method that is available for when the endometriomas larger than 5 cm in diameter and is causing a pain that is resistant to drug treatment (dysmenorrhea, dyspareunia, chronic pelvic pain), especially for pain caused by deep endometriosis. However, if the endometriomas are smaller than 5 cm in diameter and there is no severe pain, we avoid surgical treatment.

We carry out surgical treatment in the form of a laparoscopic or an open surgery. Although, if it is to be an open surgery, it should be done in accordance with microsurgery principles.

We prefer Laparoscopic surgery when we compare it to open surgery.

The reasons for laparoscopic surgery are:

  • Postoperative adhesion rate is less in a laparoscopic surgery.
  • The hospital stay is shorter.
  • Post-operative pain is less.
  • The recovery period of the patient is shorter, so they return to their daily activities and working life earlier.
  • Post-operative complications are less common.
  • It has a cosmetic advantage; we can rarely see postoperative scarring.
